Jack Bruce played a Gibson EB3, a short scale bass which gives it a brighter sound... Didnt't he?...

Jack Bruce played various Basses including a Fender Bass VI, regarding the EB3 which was the thudiest (new word) bass around and the total opposite of what you've said; they tried to brighten it up by moving the neck pickup away from the neck but this didn't happen until after the demise of Cream.

Thanks for the replies I realise now that its a bass, but now I'm more curious about playing it fingerstyle?
Seriously does it sound good because every video fragment I saw in youtube was played with a pick
(I've got nothing against pick players its just I never mastered the whole pick thing to great astonishment of my bass teacher)

I play mostly fingerstyle on 4 and 5 string basses, but I play my Hellcat VI with a pick. It is good to be able to use whatever technique you need to get the job done.

String spacing on a Bass VI makes it tough to play fingerstyle, but of course it can be done. I generally play my Bass VI pickstyle.

You can believe it is a guitar if you want (you can believe a bird is an airplane if you want too....your choice), but that doesn't change the fact that it is a bass.

Wow, where have I been? I never knew about Baritone Guitars. O_O.... I am a bass player but love to plink around on a regular electric guitar. I could totally get into a baritone guitar I think. Be the best of both worlds there.

Are the necks wider on them for the most part? I know stupid question... I ask it for my BF..he wants a guitar to play around with but hes hands are huge (hes actually got great hands for a bass but I can't talk him into playing one). He has a miserable time on my lawsuit les paul, but if the neck on a baritone guitar is beefier that might work for him. (I'm going nuts trying to find him a guitar that will fit him).
