Is this a low end guitar or a bass?

I don't know, I guess they just don't know the history of them. On one thread a couple of years ago one guy absolutely refused to believe they are basses. I put clips up of my Hellcat VI to prove it sounds like a bass, but he still said it is a guitar.
Definitely a bass, but it works great as a guitar too. A lot of people use it as a wicked, grungy guitar. It's just a damn cool instrument, whatever.
Wow, didn't except such a discussion just wanted to know if it was a baritone or a bass.

Seriously does it sound good because every video fragment I saw in youtube was played with a pick
(I've got nothing against pick players its just I never mastered the whole pick thing to great astonishment of my bass teacher)

When will you listen to people who've been somewhere, seen something, and done plenty.
I played one those Basses in 1964 I still play a very short scale Burns 6 string bass, they're called Basses because that is what they were designed and built for.
if someone made a 4 string bass tuned an octave higher would you still call it a bass?
despite the differences in playing style (which can be quite different in some situations, and sometimes quite similar) bass and guitar are essentially the same thing. kind of like a clarinet and a bass clarinet. a bass guitar and a guitar.
i may be making something along the lines of this for a friend who plays in a 3 piece and keeps swapping from guitar to bass depending on the song. using something like this would allow him to play with more of a guitar style but in a bass register.

lol, like other's have said and will say again; that's what a BASS guitar is. a guitar, generally with a longer scale length, tuned to the bass range.
but i suppose the fender VI could be used as a longer baritone guitar if tuned up, because of the narrow string spacing. but it is designed to be a bass.
if i'm not wrong your typical bartone is around the 27" or 28" scale mark
That's exactly what a bass is. Go listen to some Cream and tell me that's not a bass.
Jack Bruce played a Gibson EB3, a short scale bass which gives it a brighter sound... Didnt't he?...
