Just get someone to give it a good setup and it really doesnt matter which one. Be aware that the SXs do have a chunky neck profile which may make it harder for a beginner to play. From that point of view a Squire Jazz will be easier to play. Buy a used one from Craigslist and you save on taxes and shipping. Should be able to get one for $100

Regarding the amp, I wouldnt waste my money on that. You can plug your bass right into your computer for use with headphones... just need a 1/4 inch adapter. You can even plug it into your home stereo if it has any kind of AUX input, you just need the right adapter. Chances are it will sound alot better. Save your money.

As a beginner you will probably find the Jazz necks friendlier than the P bass necks. Plus the J bass will give you tone options to play with. Look at em all and go with the one that speaks to you. It's your money buy what you like ;)

ok i am buying a fender squier VM P bass for $225 and im on a budget. i was wondering if a 10-15 watt amp would be good enough for me if i am still learning bass and just want to play in my room in the quiet not infront of a crowd or anything. i was thinking

I think those 10-15 watt amps will be fine to start on. At the very beginning, I'd say almost anything that can handle the bass frequencies well enough without getting destroyed/damaged (home stereo, guitar amp, etc...) and at a volume level that allows you to comfortably hear yourself, will do just fine.

Welcome to bass playing!
