Is this bass seriously worth $30,000

Looks like a hack job to me. Pickguard and bridge are ??? Don't look Rickenbacker to me. I believe a 4000 from that time period should look more like this:

I'd say, WAG, $1500-2000 due to the mods (if they're mods)...

If it were original, still probably not worth $30 large tho it'd be close to that....

Ha! I guess he hasn't looked at the vintage market over the past 12 months. In any case, that math just doesn't work. If you had a $200 bass 30 years ago (that's as far out as the online calculator I found went) and it appreciated at 30% a year, that would mean you could now sell it for over $500,000. I haven't seen any '51 Fenders selling for that price, never mind '79s.

What mods? It looks very close to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. That's what the 4000 looked like when it first came out. They changed the design after introducing the 4001 a little while later.

Ooh, too cool! I'd probably max out at 2 grand for it. That being if I liked how it played/sounded.

Why 2 grand? It's as much as I ever plan to spend on a bass. I still want a custom fretless J setup and I expect my max price point will be about 2.5k.

Ok, I stand corrected, I wasn't sure to begin with. Thought all the 4000's had the other pickguard and bridge, must have been just in the first couple years?

Can't wait till my '99 4003, a one-owner, is worth 30 large. I'll probably be dead by then ;)
