Is this bass worth anything...

Uh, as another vote against burning that axe, you'll probably be gassing anyone within a few metres of the bass when it's on fire-- even if it actually burns. I can think of a few toxins off the top that are probably in it, not to mention the fact that there's probably lead in there somewhere.

But hey, there are Darwin awards for kids like you, right? The other, possibly more important factor is that all those lovely chemicals (and, considering the age of that bass, it's probably deadly toxic) will rise into our already overworked atmosphere. Not enough to knock the planet over into a nuclear winter or anything, but it shows a pretty uncaring mind.

When I was your age, I was working my arse off in crap job after crap job to help keep my family afloat, and *eventually* get my first non-crappy bass. I still play bass.

Disco Inferno.

Wait, are you the god of hellfire?

My first bass wasn't even worth expending the match to set it on fire.

Take lots of pictures.

I'm old and cranky, but it's your bass. If it moves you to burn it, do it.

Maybe its just me but some of my favorite tones that I have gotten in the studio are from the random POS basses. Having everything from Fodera's to Valenti's to old vintage Jazz's and Ps sometimes horrible bad tone can actually really work for a song. My vote is for you to hold onto it for someday when you have a quiver of 60 basses to chose from for the studio you might want to pull it out.

Anyways, before I burn this baby in my job's parking lot- is it some rare collectable? haha

For a lot of us it is at least very nostalgic looking. Wish you'd just offer it up and see if anyone would pull out their wallet.

That could make a pretty interesting story too, telling about the POS that you were going to burn and ending up selling.

As a 30+ year bass player and bass lover I can't see taking a perfectly good bass that may need no more that a wire soldered and destroying it. Don't get me wrong it's not like I lived through the great depression or anything but I've repaired and restored many old giuitars and basses and no instrument thats ever passed through my hands has been unplayable. It's your bass, do what you want with it but it just seems like a waste of an instrument to me. I'm sure there is some kid out there on craigs list that would love to play it.

When I was 15, my Dad had to sell my drums, bass, and amp, so that he could buy us food.

He lost his job between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

He sold my sister's organ to pay rent.

I dug a crappy, busted classical guitar out of the dumpster, defretted it, and strung it up with the heaviest green weedeater string I could find, just so I could have a 'bass'. The bridge had come unglued from the top, and the previous owner had reattached it with carriage bolts.

That was my only 'bass' for almost two years.

Go ahead. Burn it. There isn't anybody out there who wants a bass, and can't afford it. Nobody who plays cardboard boxes for drums, or an old classical guitar for a bass.

That's where I started, Jeff. As such, I won't comment on this thread.

I'll comment...don't be a ****head. Burning a bass in a parking lot just to see it burn in a parking lot is the ultimate in stupid. At least Hendrix burned his onstage in front of 50,000 people. Then he gave it to Frank Zappa who made a nice guitar out of it. You're just burning it to see it burn...it's just whacking yourself if you ask me.

An old friend of mine threw a 12-string Green semi-hollowbody Greco (pre-Ibanez?) guitar off a school roof when we were kids, I think that guitar would be cool to have today.

I know a lot of kids in Indonesia would love to have that bass.

I first read this I got MAD and slammed my fist down on my computer desk and accidently flung my cigar out of the ashtray and I didnt notice it at first but then I could smell something burning and it turned out to be MY BASS!!!!

How much is your time worth? Even if it took two hours of driving around to get the box and materials, and another to box it, take it to the post office, and ship it...

Say someone gives you $75, shipped for it. Probably $30 to ship it, if you've got it boxed. That leaves us with $45. Divide by the three hours of driving around and boxing and stuff, you'll got $15 an hour to get this bass to someone else. Hell, even if you take $15 off for gas and wear and tear on the vehicle, you're still at $10 an hour.

You're not selfish for turning down the money. You're just ********.
