Is this bass worth anything...

I had an old no name LP-style electric guitar that was given to me. It was beat up. It didn't work. The tuners were mismatched. It had been spraypainted black. It was a total crap guitar.
I gave it to the son of a friend of mine. He tore it down and completely rebuilt it. He rewired it. He cleaned it. He reassembled it and played it. It was still a crap guitar but it was all he had and he loved it. He also learned a ton about guitars in the process. He just got a new Washburn hollowbody as an early XMas present and he's becoming a very good player. All because he got that old crappy guitar.
They may not all be high dollar collectable vintage models but every instrument does have value.

When I was 15, my Dad had to sell my drums, bass, and amp, so that he could buy us food.
He lost his job between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
He sold my sister's organ to pay rent.
I dug a crappy, busted classical guitar out of the dumpster, defretted it, and strung it up with the heaviest green weedeater string I could find, just so I could have a 'bass'. The bridge had come unglued from the top, and the previous owner had reattached it with carriage bolts.
That was my only 'bass' for almost two years.
Go ahead. Burn it. There isn't anybody out there who wants a bass, and can't afford it. Nobody who plays cardboard boxes for drums, or an old classical guitar for a bass.

Chronicle, this will probably offend some folks on this board, and might even cause me to get a warning from a mod or something, so I apologise to these people in advance.
You've gotta be a stupid, immature kid or some sort of attention seeking lunatic, because why else would you come on a message board posting about burning a bass, and seeking the permission/consent of the patrons, when you've already decided to burn it anyway?? I have no doubt that there are kids in your area who have absolutely **** all, from poor families who would take your hand off if you offered them that bass guitar, regardless of how ****** and crappy you think it is. I should know, because when I was growing up my family weren't the richest, and being one of four kids there's no way my parents could have afforded to buy me any kind of instrument. We just couldn't have justified laying that kind of cash out for something as non-essential as a guitar. So you wouldn't have had to ask me twice if I wanted that bass.
But you go ahead and burn it if you want to, if it makes you feel all warm and good inside, because it seems as though you've made your mind up to anyway.

Hey now, I'm a little off 19 and I totally agree with your sentiments. Tarring all youngsters with the same brush is just as bad as burning a servicable instrument.
I gave my starter bass to a guy who had no hope in hell of affording one and he's probably better than I am now!
Right! Give it to charity, or try to experience some of the Who-style instrument trashing ... But just burning? That is not very artistic

Some folks have a certain degree of maturity when they hit 19, and other folks like our friend seem to retain the moron gene well into their 20s.
^^^ haha. i recently did up my first bass like replaced all hardware, gave it a new finish, replaced the electronics and now it sounds / feels like it should have set me back a few hundred pounds to buy when in it only cost me around £80 for all the parts to do it up, its totally worth doing up old basses in my opinion and you can do it with no experience.

Kids say and do the darnest things! I guess we oldies have all said and done some pretty whacky things but I also think most of us would like to go back in time and undo a few. I wouldn't burn it but of course its yours to decide. You are probably passing up about $100 on ebay from someone who would buy it as a bass project.

+ 1000 ....... If you decide to burn your bass please keep it to yourself. I have seen too many people go without to see something go to waste..... even if you might think it's beyond use.

I'd have some cool old basses to play with, mod, etc.
Keep it around or give it someone, or sell it to someone.

ok first off, to the age comments, I'm 17 so lets not delve into that, but yea...
first off, yea, i'm gonna bet u've never had to go without lunch at school, saving ur food money toward a head, cuz thats the only way u can get the money to be amplified at a show, as i currently am doing.
u say it isnt "worth fixing, or playing"...
...neither was the squier i learned on when i got hold of it, but with a lil work and a re-wire it plays and sounds beautifully, and still serves me today...
oh yea, the fact that you say it "isnt worth fixing, or playing" exposes what you know about bass, which is jack $#!7...
BTW: that axe has an awesome vintage look to it...i'd love to have my hands on one like that personally...just figured id let you know, since u say no one would want to learn on a crap bass...well...i did
