I personally dont believe it, but the pictures of the headstock were too small. Thats how the pros will officially determine the truth about it.

Judging by the picture and colour of the bass, I'd say it's a Squier, probably an affinity. Some people think Squiers are Fenders and take advantage of it for sales.

Squier. You Can see "Squier" on it if you look closely, plus its all black. Fender logos are silver or gold + outline

Ah, thanks. Shoulda known... the only Fenders I ever see on local Craigslist are Squiers. Hell, almost the only basses I ever see on local Craigslist are Squiers.

There must be a lot of people buying those things... and not keeping them. We have a pawn shop near here with exactly three basses: one Ibenez Soundgear with a busted bridge pickup, one Squier P in not-too-bad shape (don't care for the short scale), and one black thing I can't identify with EMG pickups and a case of belt rash you couldn't cure with calamine lotion. Seriously, it looks like a spallation experiment. Or Willem Defoe's face.

Didn't know Squier had any short-scale P-basses though. That's interesting.
