There's a reason Pino has recorded, and played live with so many artists.
One of the most recorded player in the last 20 years.
I can't thing of a bassist who plays in so many different styles of music.
Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Blues, Jazz, singer song-writer, rock, fusion.
One of the all time greats.
He just knows how to GROOVE !!!

oh, I know for a fact that Pino is super beast on bass. I've known for a while and he definitely has my respect. the poster just asked if that video was genius or boring. I voted boring. any bass player can do that, imo. but I know he can be a total badass when he wants/is able to.

but regardless of who is playing, slow blues is boring to me. it was David freaking Gilmour on guitar, and it was still boring to me. I've just never liked that type of music cause it all sounds the same to me.

In the context of fretless in a ballad, Pino is untouchable. There ain't even a close second.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I recently had a sequence of breakthroughs in my playing. I started by just holding down the bottom because that's all I could do. Then when I got a larger vocabulary, I abused it and played too busily in a lot of situations. Now my playing is more tasteful...you come out in the forefront when it's appropriate, but at the end of the day, you're still part of the rhythm section, holding down the badass groove.

I really enjoyed that video!

Any bass player that was paid to play those notes. It just doesn't have any imagination or any sort of defining characteristic for it to be "genius". This video, if anything, shows how professional he is. Not how amazing he is. He plays what's needed, and nothing else.

Not sure if it originally came from this, but it's an extra from "David Gilmour: In Concert." Think it came out in 2001. It is a fantastic Floyd-lite concert DVD!

saw him with Jeff Beck few times with a three peice playing fretless 4 and fretted 5 mm's.. he was just right as they say. there is a reason he is always in demand. T-bone, RIP, was the pop version of Pino

By the way, Gilmour is using the #0001 serial number Stratocaster. While not the 1st Strat made, it is a very, very early model. Pretty cool.
