Some great taste and restraint by all players...

When I joined the band I'm in now they said we'll be doing "I Put a Spell On You" and I thought it was going to be CCR. I hadn't heard this version before and I'm pretty much blown away by it. The other really cool thing is our singer sort of looks and sounds like Mica. Not quite in the same league but still very very decent. As for the bass, I'm having to watch myself pretty close to keep from dropping a bunch of spare notes in there and still working on getting the fills to come out really nice and tasty like the recording.

I like it!!

Ah well, I guess I'll have to agree. I think Pino nailed it really really well but maybe Tasteful would have been a better word choice than Genius in the thread title. It just has so much feeling is put into nice simple phrases. It really inspires me to work on my fretless playing, that's for sure.

Man, that is some tasteful stuff IMO ;)

Pino : does what he's supposed to do, no more. I wouldn't call that genius so much as a nice demonstration of professionalism.

Dave: In his prime, he was had more feel and soul then 99.99% of guitar players out there. What's with those Brits and the blues?

I think Pino took it up a notch with his tone and taste, on top of the professionalism. And Mica is so expressive, in both voice and face. IMO it was the rest of the band --Gilmour included-- that only did what was expected of a professional at the gig. Not knocking Gilmour per se, but I know a dozen bar-band guitarists that can lay it down just like that. Only Pino and Mica put their artistic stamp on the performance.

Pino's the master of taste on bass! Oleta Adams' "Get Here" is a perfect example of why he was given an arranging credit on her Circle Of One album - the guy's phrasing and selection of notes are exemplary.


And I'm not just saying that because he's a friend, he was the player who completely changed the way I perceived what a bass player could be the first time I saw him play live - playing with Jools Holland supporting The Police on New Year's Eve in Edinburgh way back in 1981!!!

We will have to agree to disagree. I heard maybe 2 bass riffs in the song that caught my ear - the rest was solid and tasteful -just as is should be for a song that is vox/guitar focused.
