Is this jazz original?

70s Fender Basses normally don't yellow on the neck and fretboard. The front of the head stock had a tendency to turn orange way while the neck was just starting to yellow.

This was because that part of the headstock was finished in Nitro and the rest of it in poly.

OK, its a refin.
Skunk stripe? hmmmnnn.....I'm pretty sure that is wrong, but depends on actual dates. Stack Pots? Huh? Nope. I don't think that is right for early 70's, those went out in the early 60's.

But, there may be a good bass under all of this. Get more info!!!!
Neck heel dates, pots/wiring, bridge, top, and clear close ups of both sides of the pickups.

Actually it is for a fiend, not for me. And his dream is to have a real 70s Fender. The seller is asking 1500 dollars, which is a good price if it was 100% original....

this is not the original bridge , nor is it the original control plate...
and as Jim Carr mentioned , it looks to be refinished .

still , it might be an excellent bass .

Looks like a BAII to me - good news there is that it "probably" didn't take any extra screw holes to put it in. The pattern is the same and they're designed for direct replacement but the only way to know for sure is to remove it and look. Since they're bigger, it might have left a dent in the wood that an original style bridge won't cover up.

But if it were me, I'd leave it anyway...

I think it's a legit Fender but it's been refin'ed and has new electronics on it. I don't know...I'm a stickler for stuff like that. I wouldn't buy it but the price isn't totally out of left field.

Here's a couple of pictures of my 71' Fender Jazz that has yellowed & oranged from the elements of time, and yes.....there have been a few mods that were done in 73'. Knobs,Brass nut,P-pups in the neck position with the original jazz pup moved next to the bridge pup.

It gets the best of both Fender Worlds.....the Mids & high of a Jazz and the punch in the gut of a Precision. The 2 mini-toggle switches boost both sets of pups. I've had recording engineers come out from behind the board to check it out and marvel at the sound.

Looks like you took the neck pup and put it between the bridge and the bridge pup since the pup closer to the bridge is slightly shorter.
