Is this legitimate?

Gibson Bass Guitar - The Ripper I've sent him a message asking for a picture of the serial number but he hasn't got back yet. This isn't completely putting me off though; whilst it may seem cheap it equates to $1100, a reasonable US price for a slightly damaged bass. Also, he has 100% positive feedback and it's collect in person, so that makes it less likely to be a scam. What do you think?

I owned a few Rippers and Grabbers....this was back in the day when a Ripper was $500 all day and night and a Grabber was $350.

It's hard to tell from the few pics, but it looks legit. One of the early and rare sunburst Rippers in the original body style. The metal knob or button or whatever it is in place of where the volume knob should be could indicate that the electronics are no longer stock, but it could also be just a replacement knob.

Well, the guy hasn't responded to my texts so I assume that he didn't want to send me a picture of the serial number because...reasons...anyway, my dad has persuaded me not to go with my original plan of selling all my basses and instead wait for the school holidays next month when I can go out and do some work with him for £10 a day. (It made me a lot last year!) Anyway, a new amp would do me better so I'm gonna try and get an old Ampeg SVT-III head and a cab of some sort. Thanks for the help though, everyone!

Unless you are certain that the bass is going to be yours it would not be a good idea to sell everything. I almost did once and I'm honestly glad I didn't. As much as I wanted the bass I knew I'd miss my others. Great deals will come to you. In two years I went from one bass to 11, you gotta be patient

I agree with this. Decent price for a Ripper but no guarantees you'll like it. I loved the idea of owning one a long time ago, but in actuality, after trying it for a bit, I realized it wasn't the bass best suited for me. It's too risky to give up basses you may possibly prefer playing for something you can't try in person. To be honest, I would pass just because of that. What you could do is to go through your basses and only keep the ones you love and sell the rest, keep the proceeds in a bass fund which you can build upon by working or if the right kind of bass comes your way. There will be more basses and more opportunities that will come your way, best to be patient and take the right kind of risks.

The Ripper was my first real decent bass. Before that was a blackjack violin and then a Harmony. It was a nice bass, but I'm not sure if I would be interested in one again. I believe I paid about 325.00 for mine. I was looking at Rick 4001's also and I took the ripper over it. Plus it was about 100.00 or so less than the Rick at the time. I don't think I would go out and sell all my other basses to buy one. It may not be the one for you.
