is THIS possible?

It sounds like it could be a defective finish. If the raw body got finger prints on it before being painted the oil from the print may have made the paint not seal well. If it continues consider yourself lucky, you won't need to pay someone to relic it. If it doesn't continue consider yourself lucky, you have a fairly clean bass. Heck, just consider yourself lucky, your playing a bass, the best instrument on the planet.

Do you play a lot? I mean like every day? You probably chipped it yourself. My 20 year old Martin acoustic (which I baby) has small dings galore. My wife's A5L Gibson has dings on it, that she has no idea how they got there. Maybe you bumped your bass, and the chip came off later. If it is happening in your 'safe' room, then the chip should be found in that room.

Higher quality finishes are more resilient to nicks and cuts; like the Ric owner above.

Another thought comes to mind: Who cleans, vacumns, dusts, etc in that Holy Room? Perhaps the axe is being 'bumped' by the cleaning crew.

I doubt it is just 'popping' off.

yeah i play it everyday! like almost all the time:bassist::bassist:
as i said above i dont mind or hate the dings they only show how much i play :smug: the maid who cleans up my room is given instructions to stay away from my gear on day 1 but yeah any one can knock or stumble around occasionally. i know this is a cheap bass for most people around and yes its not anything HQ
anyway i guess this happened due to bumps here or there some way or the other, i just wanted to know if heat could do this because it gets pretty hot here

not to sound like a jerk, but i'll play the devil's advocate.

Is it at all possible that you put the dings in the bass without realizing it?
maybe bumping the bass around in a gig bag or not taking as good care of it as you think?

yes very much possible, why i posted this thread was to find out if finishes do come off on their own of not

I'm guessing air bubble under the paint from the factory. Over time, this works it way up and one day, the temp gets just right and it pops out.

Used to see this on epoxy finishes on boats all the time. In that arena, sometimes this might start happening 10 or 15 years after the boat was built.

the finish has chipped off at places where the bass does not touch the stand.

yeah that is possible or what another person above suggested about the finish not sealing properly anyway am not too worried or anything i think the bass would rather look cooler now with more of such dings :P but since this bass is a more or less a lower quality axe i might be buying something better later on in future and these dings lower the resale value
