Do you play a lot? I mean like every day? You probably chipped it yourself. My 20 year old Martin acoustic (which I baby) has small dings galore. My wife's A5L Gibson has dings on it, that she has no idea how they got there. Maybe you bumped your bass, and the chip came off later. If it is happening in your 'safe' room, then the chip should be found in that room.
Higher quality finishes are more resilient to nicks and cuts; like the Ric owner above.
Another thought comes to mind: Who cleans, vacumns, dusts, etc in that Holy Room? Perhaps the axe is being 'bumped' by the cleaning crew.
I doubt it is just 'popping' off.
