Is this trade worth it?

I'd say fair trade. You'll get much more use out of that Alembic for the type of music you like playing I think. Keeping a bass solely on looks alone is probably a red flag to part with it if you truly don't bond with it. Go for it! Alembics are amazing.

Very fair trade for you if you go for the alembic!
I had a ‘78 Ric for over 20 years and I can say I never really bonded with it. If someone had offered me an alembic for it I would be all over it!!!

The OP being from Finland may not have as robust a market on the Alembic due to other more EU dominant builders offering similar "furniture" Basses.

The Alembic owner has what looks like a clean example of a more entry-level Alembic "Jazz Bass" and sees a newer classic RIC and would be wanting the sound more than feeling he is going to need to operate in the TB vacuum of "flip and turn" +/- ca$h and use of an electron microscope in providing a lopsided trade offer.

The things the OP wants to achieve are much more serviced by an amazing entry-level Alembic.

Throwing out random incorrect advice is not helpful and demonstrates a specific lack of knowledge regarding what to look for on an instrument.

I'd suggest giving Mica at Alembic a call or shooting her an email with the serial number. She can pull the build card for it.

I know you're being facetious, but I appreciate the thought regardless. ;-)

I've been an Alembic player since '81 and have done quite a bit of deep-diving on the company and their products. Mica, Susan and Ron are wonderful people who somehow tolerate me showing up and hanging out at random intervals. So, I get more than a little eager to provide information about their instruments when it comes up.

Something like "Be aware this bass has a double truss rod" might come across better than "most people don't know". It's all in the delivery.

The Alembic looks passive? I had an Epic and it was active. I've owned Alembic Epic and played a number of Rics. Alembic hands down is a better bass. Value wise the Ric will sell easier but they are equal IMO.
