Is this true? Only open strings on metal?

Hey guys so i'm saving money for my first bass and I've been looking at bass technic videos and other videos about bass. I came across this video and in the video he says that you can play only open strings for metal? I'm not sure if i understood correctly. On his covers he only plays open strings and doesn't do any fretting. As someone that doesn't even play yet, is this correct? I've never seen this before.

how can there be over 30 ways to play a bass line, when you only have access to 4, or 5 notes?

Nothing about that is true. In fact, I’ve played most metal on fretted notes rather than open notes.

Reminds me of a "lesson" I saw on YouTube where they said to never play open strings.

I'm honestly not sure if he knows the difference between an open string and a root note.

I’m okay with differing with a whopping 48 people who subscribed to a dude who doesn’t care enough about his content or his viewers to invest the cost of a twelve pack of beer on a dang tripod.
