Is this wiring possible?

Hi,

I have a four control hole bass. I want to set it up with two MM humbuckers with this configuration:

- master vol
- master tone
- 3-pos pickup selector switch
- 3-pos series/parallel/single master switch (works on both pickups).

Is this possible? I think I've seen diagrams for series/parallel, but not sure if it's possible once you throw in the single coil option.

Any other ideas on how to wire this with four holes are welcome (perhaps vol-tone1-tone2-selector with push-pull on the tones for series/parallel or series/single or parallel/single?)

Thanks in advance,
sotua

Hmmm .... depends on how many poles will be needed to do the series-parallel-single coil trick. The push-pull required may not exist (if I understand your desires properly you want one switch to do all three functions listed, on both pickups at once, correct?).

That would take some tricky routing, and several poles ... maybe more poles than are available on a push-pull.

You could always drill another hole for another control if necessary. It wouldn't be the end of the world. :)

Use a 3PDT switch. You'd have to wire it pickups -> 3 way selector -> 3PDT switch -> tone/vol
Actually, now that I think of it, a DPDT will do. But it has to be on/on/on. Also a 3PDT or 4PDT on/on/on might be easier to wire.
Also, this thread seems to have relevant info.

Yes, you need a 4PDT on-on-on switch. If you use a toggle, you wire it like two DPDT on-on-on switches next to each other.

Since you have a regular large potentiometer hole you can use a rotary switch, which is easier to find than the small toggle switches.

Thanks everyone. Looks like fun! Would a 3-pole 4-position rotary switch work? I have one lying around...

Hey David... this 4-hole twin musicman pickup bass is the one that will hold your Wal kit... when it's available :hyper: . Figured I'd put in some pickups and passive electronics while I wait for the Wal package.

Yes

Each pickup to its own series/parallel/single switch then to the 5 way toggle then to the volume and tone then to the output jack.
