Is your bass always in tune?

Yes, unless there is a drastic change in temp. I haven't touched my Ibanez SR 300 in about 5 months until last night when I just felt like playing it. It was still perfectly in tune.

I think I have really good luck in that department. Seems like I have to tune between songs for about a week on a newly setup bass. After a week or a few days -depends on playing schedule, it settles down just fine and barely needs any attention. This is all 3 of my basses.

I live in Minnesota and my basses are always changing temps. Our home is around 65 degrees then I go to practice from Columbia Heights to Richfield the practice space has a different temp I'm sure. But all that said my 2 basses stay in tune ok slight tune needed once in awhile. But when I owned a Geddy Lee MIM Jazz that skinny neck would go wacky on me from Summer to Winter set ups needed bad. My two basses I currently own are 5 Strings Fender Am Deluxe V and a Ernie Ball Neck Thru 5 so far so good on those 2.

My 1991 Fender P-Bass Plus stayed in tune for nearly ten years just sitting under the bed in it's case. My L-2000 stays very close but gets tuned every time I play it.

The current SR800 I have goes out of tune constantly, but the neck feels like it's made out of Balsa or something so it's not the most stable.

The previous Ric I had was really good about keeping tune. I moved across the country with it in a van, going from 0 degrees in the mountains to 40 in Arizona, and later to 110. Never had to adjust it more than a few cents, though I checked constantly.

My main bass for about 30 yrs, a PBass, almost never went out of tune, maybe 1-2 times did I touch the truss. My current bass ,a parts P, not so. It will go out once or twice a gig. I can't figure it out. Hipshot tuners, year old Chromes. The bass was assembled about 11/2 years ago with a new neck. It doesn't go out drastically but still bugs me.

I have a few that require minimal attention. I also have one bass that's almost always a bit out of tune...but it's a fretless. I'm pretty sure the position markers move with humidity changes. Can't be me. ;-)

I check every time
but only have to tune it up about every 6-7 times I play it. And then not much.

With ghs precision flats on it that have been broken in.

Generally mine stay in tune. If I dont play a particular one for a while and there are some weather changes, it may need a slight adjustment.

Don't know why this is, but my precision stays in tune except the E tuner likes going into a slightly sharp drop D when I move it somewhere in a gig bag.

Seriously guys? Nearly every time I pickup my bass (or any bass) it's a bit out of tune.

And my current bass has a neck on it that barely moves, regardless of the weather.

I guess I have crappy tuners?

I've had problem basses, where the neck keeps slowly creeping forward, and I also found that hanging them vs. standing them helped with that issue.

Depends what key we're playing in. Frets = equal temperment. In equal temperment, there's no such thing as "in tune."

I'm just glad I sprung for the model with those turner thingies at the end of the base. They sure come in handy.

My '79 Stingray and '58 precision are nearly always in tune. I can't say the same for the rest of my basses.

Does your bass stay in tune?
I had a MIM Fender jazz that I bought in tune & almost never had to touch the tuners. Even after playing out.
I have a ESP LTD B205 that only the A string wanders a little. Also a Squier jag that only requires minor tuning even after going back & forth to gigs. I recently bought a fender p that was tuned down 2 frets. I have since tuned normal. It still wandering a little but should settle down soon. How about you guys?

My L-2000 rarely requires tuning. Dunno how, but I'm not one to fix what isn't broken.

The furnace running all day definitely has an effect on tuning stability. This time of year, I keep all my serious instruments in cases.

I use a Mono bass bag when I take any bass out of the house. If you want solid protection for the instrument and something that's easy to carry, I don't think you can beat them

No, not always. The 2 that stay out all the time? They don't change much at all, but... I check them once a month or so. It's been decades since I was in a band, so my instruments very seldom leave the house. And, here in Vegas, the climate in my house is very stable. There's no humidity to speak of, summer or winter, so that's never much of a factor. As for the instruments that don't stay out? They come out in rotation for any maintenance they might need, and then get played for a month, at least once a year. Those usually require a tuning tweak or two - but nothing more...

I play Fender American Standard Precisions; it's very rare that I don't check the tuning every time I pick them up. I change my Strings habitually every 2 weeks.
