ISB was great!
I managed to complete my first bass build and receive some very helpful feedback. “Complete” may be a little strong, as I was still varnishing 24 hours before I handed it in. Much tweaking remains, but I’m happy to have met the deadline.
I enjoyed seeing performances by Maggie Urquhart’s violone trio, Damon Smith and Krista Kopper, and Martin Wind’s ensemble. The presentation on Andy Gonzalez was great, as was Ed Shillitoe’s talk on the history of bass bows.
A few random pics below: Having difficulty with the order, but pics include: The luxurious build-a-bass workshop, Ed’s bows for his presentation, some of the 22 entries in the maker’s competition, Damon playing his ‘prepared’ bass, and my bass (on the workbench and being played by
both Detroiter Eddie Coburn and Christian, his grandson).
