Isolated Bass Tracks Questions.

I always feel a little comforted when I listen to one of them and hear little mistakes or sloppiness that get masked by the other parts of the song. It's nice to know that even the pros aren't completely flawless.

My absolute favorite isolated track has to be Flea's line for Alanis' "You Oughta Know". It's perfectly listenable on its own, kind of like a Jamerson track (Bernadette, I'm looking at you.)

I heard they had to totally time align Flea's bass on that track. His timing was way off. He was brought in at the last minute apparently. This is from the engineer/mixer on that track and for the life of me I can't remember who it was but he was telling that story on one of the Produce Like A Pro videos from a while ago.

It's between 0:57 - 0:58.

N.B. That soundclip is extremely slowed down.

Do you think it sounds the same as on the FULL-Version track?

Can you hear that note, G#?

That G# is a just "extra dirty" ghosted, (dead) note before A.

@Whousedtoplay, I'm listening to one of the version's posted yesterday (unplugged, with phone... but, it's coming through pretty well and our kids are off to school!)

Here's what I'm hearing, so far:

ExGG#F#xG#-BA

'x' = space
'-' = slide
Note: Everything is lower register, except for E, F# and A.

The E and F# are very pronounced. Actually, pretty cool line, correct or not. The slide up to the low B, then higher A is nice, too.

If I start by anchoring my left index on the second string, second fret and use middle and third for fretting on the 4th string, the run can actually be done pretty quickly, too.

Yes, that bass embellishment is clearly pronounced on the FULL version of the song.
The "isolated" bass line has a very "dirty" G#.
The sound engineer has fixed it, or maybe, that note was re-recorded during mixing - I have no idea.

I like to listen to the live isolated tracks to see what the player has changed compared to the isolated studio stuff
I was surprise on many songs how much compression was used to the point of crushing the notes, but when you hear in the band mix it doesn't present it's self as that.
I like most, have found little hidden jems in songs I have been covering for years, example in the piano outro of Sweet Home Alabama the bass changes to bass line I never heard, not even with headphones so I do it live now

I just found a live version of SHA iso bass track. I needed to know what the heck was going on in those musical passages between the verses, in a song I’ve been playing since it was released. They help a lot!
