I've always been a Zeppelin fan, but never learned any of their tunes until recently (our guitarist is a fanatic). This sealed the deal for me:

Yup, JPJ was given lots of freedom on LZ II and is so hot in the mix you almost don't need to refer to an isolated track.

How do they do this? Do the people who post these have access to the multitrack recordings or is there some sort of software or something?

With all the music games like Rock Band using the actual tracks people have pulled the individual instrument tracks from the game files.

And other ways and stuff.

EDIT: I don't think they started using the original recordings until Guitar Hero III I think?

No software can isolate the instruments from a recording...that should probably be a sticky. But like bbb said, alot of people did it by ripping apart the rock band songs.

Just the other day I tried to find an isolated bass track of "Yours is no Disgrace." No luck! : (

I also love the tracks others have posted: Tool, Primus... An isolated bass track of "Pudding Time" would be pretty sweet.
