Paul only used 2 basses recording Abbey Road, a Ric 4001S and a Fender Jazz. Most people say it's the Jazz.

Holy Diver is the second song I learned on bass (Thin Lizzy's Are You Ready, the first) This excellent drum and bass track was very helpful.

I was surprised when I heard this track how pretty Ed King's bass line was on it's own.

I was never much of a Lynerd Skynerd fan. then the band I was in starting doing 2 or three (Not Freebird) of their songs. when we broke the songs down, I was really impressed with the three guitar parts and how they worked so well together - the bass, drums and keyboards were just as good. those guys were real musicians and they took absolutely no prisoners in their work.

I like the isolated bass tracks sometimes, but I also really really like visualizations like this where you can "see" the bass in context:

Yeah, I feel like these should shown to new bass players (or anyone, especially me) as a diagram of how to maintain a groove while playing melodically and staying interesting without being unnecessarily flashy.

I actually played "Carry On Wayward Son" in a band in college. One of my favorite songs to play! Dave Hope is a fantastic player. If you can find "Magnum Opus", give that a listen.

did it in high school. I even bought a Kramer aluminum neck bass because of Kansas. True fact.

I agree, although I will go out on a limb and say that level of inhuman groove has to have an inherit level of talent and feel. I could practice all day every day and probably not ever attain that level of... I don't even know what to call it except feel. He's feeling that in a way I can't.

Having said that, it won't stop me from trying!
