Never, ever, trust a bass player that can't get into at least a little bit of disco!
Growing up I always made fun of disco, it was cheesy music and very underneath my self-proclaimed prodigy (yea, I was 15-16, thought I knew it all)
I would quickly push the button on the car radio (remember those black buttons under the needle display?) whenever a song came on, as it wasn’t rock.
As I got older and a little more seasoned, those funk lines started making sense. I discovered what I was missing and dug into the style. It was a true moment when the light came on. More, please....
My question is, how can you be a bassist and not dig the groove and funk that disco dripped with?
Many new bands are just rehashing the old disco and banking. Just goes to prove it never goes out of style, regardless of what you feel.
