I traded an old Alvarez Acoustic for a Fernandes Jazz Style bass. I am a rhythm/lead guitar player and bass is my second instrument. I don't know a heck of a lot about bass guitars. I know that if I like it, that's good enough for me.
This bass was listed for $110.00 so I offered a trade that was accepted.
At first glance the Fernandes seemed playable. I began making comparisons between this an "F" Jazz bass and found them extremely close in appearance.
I went to the "Fernandes Forum" section and found similarities between my bass and some of the bass' others had uploaded. I would find that my guitar was identical to another posted except for the truss-rod adjustment. Like mine, the pic posted of the uploaded Fernandes had the the truss rod adjustment at the "heel" or, bridge end of the neck. Mine is just the "+" which is totally exposed. The pic of the other bass had a nicely routed "pocket" in which the truss rod end was neatly nestled.
Another oddity is a small strip of metal from the bridge pick-up to the bridge which I can only assume is some sort of a ground.
The neck plate on the back of the guitar is stamped with the words: (top) "Fernandes" - (Bott) "Made In Japan".
The previous owners did take it a local music shop which is also my go-to place for advice, repairs I can't fix, etc...
The store tech told the previous owners that it was likely a late eighties made bass of a decent quality.
The old gal has obviously been around the block a time or two (the bass, I mean) but, there is something about this old bass that draws me to her!
I am going to try uploading a few pics and hopefully someone can tell something about the vintage of this guitar and where I can go to possibly get more specific info. Who knows, maybe it's a multi-parts bass???
Thanks from a noob!
