Ya, it's gonna suck having remove the entire pick guard to change batteries.

As a suggestion...I'd get another piece of that pick guard so I could make a tight fitting door that fits flush and "seamless" with 2 small screws to secure it.

I was gonna ask why not put the battery cavity in the back but, that would look to modern for this one.

I play with a guitar player who took an MIM Telecaster and put hundreds of dollars in mods in it. Blasphemy would be taking a vintage 1961 Jazz bass and doing that. Your bass is really nice. You did a great job!

So, it sounds great. At least it will sound great once fully adjusted. The bottom pick up, being so close to the bridge, gives it a bright tone but surprisingly not too bright. I raised the neck pick up to compensate and it creates a warmer/ punchier feel. Blended, I prefer the neck pick up to be more prominent. I kept the mid range high and the low/treble about even. It picks up the attack well but not too brightly and still creates a perfect bottom end. The full contact bridge is great, dialing in action/ intonation is there in spades. All and all it sounds exactly how I wanted it and all under 700$ total for everything from shipping to sandpaper and varnish.
