Italia Rimini? Experiences?

The Italia Rimini is a semi hollow body with a pickup right at the base of the neck and a second close to the bridge

I've not played either bass so I can't compare sound or playability or build quality.

I think the Italia is more expensive than the SUB.

If it's your main player, I'd stick with the sub. If not, I'd go with the Italia. It's worth more, plus has the novelty factor going on.

I've only noodled with an Italia at NAMM, and remember loving the way it looked but then loosing all gas for them once plugged in. I didn't think they were bad, but I wasn't wowwed at all. And while it's not really fair for me to say this since I have no experience with them in a band mix, something tells me they'd get terribly lost. I have an Ibanez Artcore that looks beautiful and sounds great in an acoustic setting, but throw it in a loud band mix and it's severely lacking. The Italiz has the same type of pickups and the semi hollow bodied thing happening... so me thinks it would be a similar deal.

There also must be a reason the person trading is willing to take hit in the trade.

They look sexy as all heck, I want one. No idea what they sound like. Hmmm, after reading Joe Nerve's post, be sure you try before you swap...

Thanks, yeah I'm taking my amp and cab with me to test it out. The sub isn't my main bass it never gets used as I have 2 Fender J basses and another Ray. The guy said he has a fretless and this and is playing in a hardcore band and needs something more aggressive. Figure even if I hate it, it's worth more than my sub so I could just turn around and sell it.

With that added info I'd take the Italia in a heartbeat. No question about it. Even if what I said in my last post is true, it would make a great bass for acoustic or other gigs it might fit well into. Truth be told, an Italia is still on my bass bucket list. I love the way they look, and welcome the unique tone such a bass offers. I just wouldn't want it as a main player.

I has an Italia Imola. First bass I ever bought. Thought it was fine. Always got compliments on the way it looked. Dont remember anything bad about it. Traded it for a combo.

Possession, it has Tape Wounds on it. I've spend a total of maybe 15min playing it.

Initial assessment is that it sounds pretty
Good, going to change the strings to round wounds here soon. It feels really good to play, it is weird not having a thumb rest because I tend to play more in the middle but not a huge deal. My main gripe is that it has chips from when it was either A. Routed or B having electronics installed which on a bass that sells new for almost a grand I wouldn't expect, doesn't look like normal wear to me.

Wow that's a beautiful bass! Maybe they had an issue with a loose ground or dirty pots or something and went inside to fix it and maybe pulled a bit of paint off with it. Kind of a bummer but beautiful nevertheless!

Cool bass! Too bad about the chipped paint.

I tried one of these out at a local shop once and I liked it, has a Ric 4005 vibe to it.

That same shop had a vintage double-bound 4005 in it which they were asking well north of $10k for. I didn't even bother thinking about touching it for comparison purposes lol.
