Couldn't help but comment, been playing bass for almost two years now and am finally progressing to the point of laying down some original stuff.
Fast reversing - back in November, I was hired as a contractor in a manufacturing facility alongside of another guy who was hired at the same time. Though 12 years my junior, we made friends, and daily conversation led to a common thread - music. He is a skilled guitarist who had been in a band while in college!
Long story short, visits and discussions led to the possibility of investigating writing some original material. I recently threw down some bass lines on my phone (no kidding), sent them to him, and he wrote some guitar lines over it - with some additional stuff. Within 15 minutes of receiving it back, I wrote a bass line behind what he had added. We were both thrilled at the result - very catchy country/jazz feel material.
This week I received a Tascam DP-008 digital 8 track recorder for a birthday present, and began the "official" process of laying down tracks. To boot, my son has a Yamaha electronic drum kit, and is very capable in that arena - so good things are in the making. We have also been penning some lyrics.....
Please don't confuse this with any ambition or high hopes to be successful at music ventures. At my age, and with hearing issues (tinnitus), I'll never hope to venture out, but my point, coming full circle, is that it's a WONDERFUL feeling to progress to the point of skill where composition is possible - and happening.
It's GOOD to make progress and put it to unique use. So happy I picked up the bass.
