An ad seeking musicians on my local Craigslist shows the following songs in the band's repertoire (with year of release):
Kiss (Prince) 1986
Erotic city (Prince) 1984
Let's Go Crazy (Prince ) 1984
Billy Jean (Micheal Jackson) 1982
Don't stop til you get enough (Micheal Jackson) 1979
Owner of a lonely heart (Yes) 1983
Rosanna (Toto) 1982
Another one bites the dust (Queen) 1980
Tell Me Something Good (Chaka Khan) 1974
Sailin' on (Bad Brains) 1982
Maggot Brain (Parliament Funkadelic) 1971
. Good Times (Chic) 1979
. Use Me (Bill Withers ) 1972
So, on average, these tunes are about 40 or so years old. Many were hits when I was in high school and college.
Now, guess the date range of the desired musicians. 40 years old? 50? 60?
Nope. You have to be between 18 and 30.
The most recent of these tunes was recorded in 1986. If you were 18 when that song was released, you're 55 years old now.
Dear little kiddos who want to be in bands: if you don't want the people who actually know how to play this stuff, may I suggest you start a Green Day or Foo Fighters tribute band. Otherwise, if and when I come to see you, you will suck.
End of rant.
