It's NOT working :(

Hi I have a couple of pedals and i have just got some cables to try and put together a pedal board, but when I link them all up with a power adapter on each nothing lights up or makes a noise. Am i missing something?
 
They work independantly with an adapter, I have 9v power adapters for them but not all are from pedals, could that be a problem

yes this could. Not all power adapters are rated for the same voltage. Some are 5v, some 6v, some 9v, and some 12v. The amparage can also differ considerably. Additionally the tip may differ. some are center posative, while some may be center negative. I would suggest running batteries in the pedals until you can sort this all out. The last thing you want is to fry the boards internally.
 
It's a start, but unfortunately both Boss and Behringer make a bunch of different multi-effect pedals, and DOD makes more than one flanger.

First thing is to make sure the voltage on the adapter is correct. The DOD will want 9vdc. I think the others will want the same, but I'm not certain. If your adapter says 9vac then get keep it away from the DOD. The DC or AC after the voltage number is very important, don't screw that up.

If your adapter is within about 10% plus or minus of your pedals voltage requirements, it should work. So a 9.6v adapter will work on a 9v pedal.

The mA requirement of your pedal is a bare minimum. If your pedal says 200mA on it, then it needs a minimum of 200mA. If you can give it 1000mA, that is probably a good thing to do. It will still only use 200mA, but you have some headroom. The DOD wont draw more than 30 mA, the others will draw significantly more, but I don't know the exact figure.

Third you need to know polarity. You just need to make the symbols match on your pedal and power supply.

It may not look exactly like this, the important thing to look for is which symbol (+ or -) is going to the shell and which is going to the center(symbol I provided is called 'center negative').

DOD is tricky because most pedals use a center negative. DOD is actually a positive tip, but you can buy an adapter to make it work with a center negative power supply. (EDIT: some of the new DOD's are center negative)

Find the symbol on your multis and make sure it matches with your power supply.

If you're daisy chaining all of them off of one power supply then there are other more complex issues that could be at the heart of your problem.

For now, yes.

It is really hard to help out when we're getting half of the information. If I knew the model of the pedals, not just brand and type, I could give you more specific information. I'm not sure if you are running one power supply or two, or three. I'm not sure the specs on your power supply.

If I knew these things I could help very specifically with your problem, and try to be simple about it so it doesn't become an ohms law lesson. I don't have enough info so I have to be general in what I'm writing. General means more complex.

I am very thankful for your help, I am currently at work so can't get all the info from the pedals and I don't know it off the top of my head, put with put the info up when I get in, Thanks again

on the side next to the power socket this one says:

this one says POWER SUPPLY then [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] put flipped 180 degrees so the negative is on the left and the positive on the right.

does this make sense? sorry if it doesn't

If the "-" sign is connected by a line to the outer semicircle, and the "+" sign is connected to the inner dot, then that pedal has what's called "reverse polarity". This pedal needs its own separate (not daisy-chained) center-positive power supply. It will not work with other adapters, and if you daisy-chain its power with other pedals they may temporarily shut down.
 
the - is connected to the inner dot and the + is connected to the semicircle, on one the + goes to the semi circle from the left and on the other one the - is connected to the inner circle from the left.
 
I find this is a good reason generally, if you're not sure, to just use the adapter that the manufacturers make specifically for a particular unit. You can find generic ones that work, but I find going with the maker's own adapter much simpler.
 
ah right thanks it looked confussing when i looked and it was the same but just the other way around, i wondered if it was just the same thing.

I have just bought some batteries now lol
