how is that not a slight? wasn't a very good slight, but a slight nonetheless. anyway, yes, you're right...your generation invented punk and not mine 35 years ago. yours is truly the greatest generation ever to walk the earth. blah blah woof woof.
Don't put words in my mouth. I never claimed that any generation aside from yours invented punk, but it is arrogant on your part to believe that it ended with yours as well. But if you wanna cry about, by all means.
To john_martin_sai, you bring up a good point when you say "was" part of the scene. Was. Past tense. As in "not anymore". Thanks for that. If I would like a history lesson on punk, or some stories on how it was in the good ol' days, then I'll gladly listen to Jimmy, as he knows far more about it than I, because he was there. Although, but that logic, I would be more appropriate to say what punk is like currently, as I am currently here (for lack of a better wording). I can say with complete certainty that in the past few years, I have been more involved in the punk scene than Jimmy (which, by his own claims, is dead, and thus he has no involvement).
Also, let me clarify something from another post, the actual
45 year old punks that come to shows do get respect. These are the people that never grew up and never lost the faith. While I still stand by my statement that being THAT guy is kinda strange, whatever, that's just my take on it. That being said, I was directing that more at 45 year old guys who claim they were punks 25 years ago (huh, that would made them 20...interesting), but now have little to no involvement. That's fine, they grew up and grew out of it, but is most certainly doesn't give them any authority to make claims on how the scene currently is.
THand brings up the concept of posers, which seems rather fitting here. The 21 year old kid from suburbia who acts hardcore and the 45 year old dad from suburbia (who claims to once have been a punk) are the same in their poser-dom.
So...yeah.
