The answer to your question is NO, this type of funky groove will not fit with most contemporary worship. That is, unless your are doing Gospel, or other Christian music that is inherently funky (google search Planet Shakers, Endless Praise). To speak frankly, most modern worship is super boring and straight forward, but that is OK. However, I think you should push the boundaries with your worship leader and ask him/her to try new stuff, because everyone loves a good groove, and it can enhance the worship experience. Side note: I started playing in gigging bands outside of church to have a more divers pallet of music, which has been great. It has allowed me to stop being annoying to the worship leader by constantly asking him to incorporate different styles into the worship set, and now I get to feel the groove, and still do worship at church
