J bass recommendation

I do have a lot to pick from. One thing is that im a sucker for bound and inlayed necks. Also would like rosewood fretboard. My pbass is maple and if/when i get a j i may put flats on the p.
I have to look into these fujigens.

One thing about them is the exported stock is not quite as cool as the "not-for-export" ones, so availability of the cool stuff is questionable. There's a good few on Reverb from various countries. The ones coming from Japan, you gotta pay the duties, so that raises the price a bit above and beyond the shipping.

M&MGB (link above) does look to have a rosewood / three-tone burst with a thick slab rosewood fb for $999, but it's dotted not blocked. I've been looking at the Sires too. They're really nice and affordable, but I'm not sure if they have a passive / rosewood / block combo? I actually don't recall if you said you were looking for passive or active, so if you want active, they def have something for you for like $600 or so.

What if you wanted a jbass - but wanted to get something other than a fender - Maybe you have about $1500 (saving is awesome) and used is acceptable.

My Jazz bass is an active Metro Sadowsky RV5, strung with D'Addario NYXL's. It has a big sound, full, wide and deep. I love it. This is the older Japanese made Metro. I bought it from the classifieds (slightly more than $1500, though!). I'd recommend one of these all day.

i was going to say that i love the different headstock, but then i noticed the bite. I get it, but not a fan.

You can always buy one of these...$40!

I use a/c foam and a strip of felt...plenty of colors available.

I'm a big fan of '80s Japanese Jazz Basses: Moon, ESP, Tokai, Fernandes, Fender MIJ, etc. The Fender MIJ "62 Reissue" basses made in the mid- to late-'80s are pretty awesome.

For USA-made Jazz Basses that are "not a Fender," I like the Hamer Cruise from the '90s. California-made Schecter Guitar Research basses are some of the best you'll ever get your hands on.

Just curious for those who are familiar with the G&L tribs. What’s the difference between the JB and the JB-2? Other than body shape of course. Looks like they have the same nut width and pickups.

The Schecters I’m talking about we’re made in California from the late-‘70s through mid-‘80s. They were high-quality Fender clones. You can sometimes find them on reverb or eBay for around $1500.

I picked up my Momose(Japanese) for a little over $1500..Worth every penny. Fantastic playability.

I think you would be more than satisfied with a Lakland . My choice is for the DJ4 , bought one two months ago and it's fantastic.

The American Pro 2 could be seen as one of the ”different” jazz models since it has graphite rods and a five bolt neck with new cutaway thing at the joint. I would say the MIM jazz basses are more “traditional” not to mention all the vintage accurate ones (moolon etc.).
