Marty had a voice that could make a stone cry. Didn't use it so much on this tune.
Oh yeah. I saw him with Hot Tuna a couple of years ago. He is still getn it done.
Huge fan here. Saw him twice with the Airplane, back in the day, and 3 or 4 times with Jorma. Probably the only bassist I've seen in person that I would call "better" would be Steve Swallow.
I think he got confused, and thought you were referring to Marty, who died then.
If you look at my icon…a pic I took, Jack in action, with Papa John’s shadow on his amps, 1972.
This showed me what hearing other possibilities can do. Pre Airplane he’d played with James Brown at the Howard Theater, Wash DC.

Trivia: His brother Mike was in my 11th grade class. I got to noodle on his ‘60 Sunburst Tort P. Helped me go electric. I played upright before.

Yeah...in my youth spent 6 weekends with Jack at the Fur Peace Ranch. Also was lucky enough to do a full day private lesson with him. Those were the days Now I am able to leverage that stuff even more being in probably the only Old School Jefferson Airplane tribute in the country.

Jack turned down an offer from Jimi Hendrix to replace Noel Redding when he left as Hot Tuna was starting to get some popularity, iconic bassist not only with his playing style but was a pioneer along with the founders of Alembic in bass electronics, pre amps, amplification etc., and one of my earliest influences.
