JACK CASADY

Fur Peace Ranch. Got to spend an entire weekend learning from a master. It was awesome.

Jack was the first bassist who really caught my ear back when the world was new. I loved After Bathing At Baxter's and Crown of Creation, and those albums were a big reason why I started learning bass. Then Hot Tuna (the first album) came out and started me in a new direction, combining that psychedelic, slightly overdriven sound with acoustic music. He's still a big influence on my playing, there's always something to learn from listening to him.

My Jack Casady signature bass is one my regular players now, usually through a small tube amp or an Interstellar Overdrive preamp (another of Jack's little projects).

I never got to see him with the Airplane, but I've seen Hot Tuna (both acoustic and electric) several times. The most recent was electric with Steve Kimock on guitar, and included an entrancing jam on Good Shepherd. I hope there's another Hot Tuna tour coming my way soon!

Yeah, Jack Casady is among my absolute favorite bass players.

Mostly for what he did in Jefferson Airplane though, which I also like quite a bit.

Also first time hearing "Sunrise", haven't heard that much Jefferson Starship, wouh, amazingly beautiful track! :wideyed:
