Jackson JJ - Mediumscale - Bought it... =)

Were the JJ bass built in the custom shop ?
Retail price ?

I know it is quite rare but does anyone know how many of these were built ?

I have been trying to find one for a loooong time, and now I have found one...but I have no clue what to pay for it.

The body has been modified...see picture. There is a thumbrest mounted.

I am no jackson expert, but I think this is one of their MIJ surfer type basses. Probabily was born around 1998-2000. To find out the exact model, check out the jackson catalogs, they have every one of them at their website starting from late 80s I guess. That said, Ontario, CA facility did build custom shop basses that looked almost identical to overseas models. Finish kinda suggest that, but I haven't seen a Jackson Custom Shop model that isn't a set-neck or neck-thru. Finish may actually be a re-finish, can't say for sure.

They are rare enough you don't see one everyday, but they are not that rare so that one could sell it over $250-$400, depending on the condition (given that it is a regular run instrument, not custom shop).

I have received the serialnumber and some more info....

Serial: 04xx JJ

Built in 1998 in Ontario ?

"neck dress by Lance, wiring by Mark, assembly by Mark and set-up by JR"...or did they just assemble the bass in Ontario ?

1695$ Retail price.

I didn't see this thread earlier, but your info and link are correct whatawaste.


I have played many Jacksons, and own quite a few, but never "wanted" a JJ due to the looks. Since you did get it, you'll have to post some clips of what it sounds like for the TB'ers, and myself since I never heard one. :)

The looks is EVERYTHING !!! :D

...I have been looking for a cool Medium-scale bass and they are quite hard to find, so when I came across this one I couldn´t resist it. The flames are a bit too much, but since I am playing 70-80:ties hardrock it will suit me fine...

Hopefully I will get it on friday next week, and I will post some pics and info.

Cool to have an unusual bass. Fenders are booooooring...:hiding:

I didn't mean I hate the holo-flames, just not my kind of bodystyle.

You are right about that they are rare, you never see one of those around anywhere, and since you got one for the price you wanted to pay, treasure it as a memory of a different ERA and play the heck out of it for many years to come, since you like the m-scale, you should be very happy.

then you need to look around for a JJ-1 for your guitarplayer so you guys would match :)

i found one on ebay recently, an all black one in excellent condition with the hard case. can you help with something? what do each of the four knobs do? i can't seem to find any documentation anywhere on the controls. the volume button pulls up too, i read somewhere that it activates some sort of slap circuitry? are the other three knobs for 3 band eq or 2 band eq and blend? mine was made in 1998. thanks!

anyway, the dual knobs are for splitting/combining the dual coil MM pickup probably.... ( perhaps thats what you mean by "slap" setting ) and the others are bass/treb/vol/vol IIRC.

I too have one of these. I was told that there were only 50 of these made EVER and they were made from the master builders at the custom shop before Fender bought them.

will do today or tomorrow. The one I have I was told by Donnie Wade (who created this particular JJ bass) that he made 25 in red and 25 in black and the red one was featured in Bass Player Magazine. I am interested in selling this particular bass if anyone is interested. I will get pics up soon.
