Great portrait!
People coming along to point out that while he revolutionized electric bass, especially in fusion, he wasn't the world's greatest bassist at the time, never mind GOAT, in 3... 2... 1...

Here is a quick summary of the real information:

My personal opinion is that expressions like “world’s greatest” make it seem like there is an absolute scale by which all bassists can be measured, regardless the genre(s) they explored, instrument(s) they played, era(s) they lived in, and contribution(s) they made to the art.
I don't think there is an absolute way to rank the greats, so I don't think he was the world's greatest or wasn't the world's greatest, because the idea that there could be a "greatest" in some absolute sense doesn't work in my brain.
Now as for the portrait: I love it, and given that he referred to himself as the "World’s Greatest," I like the line on it. It captures who he was and what he thought of his contribution to music.
And isn’t that what portraits are supposed to do? Capture the soul of the subject? If reproductions are available for sale, count me in. I’d hang that in my house in a shot. With the claim, whether I think it’s meaningful to compare great bassists or not.

Didn't Jaco call himself "The greatest bass player in the world."
Jaco, like Anthony Jackson or Larry Graham was great because he heard something in his head that didn’t exist and he made it real. Jaco stands out because he was a great composer too.
One of my favourite things is listening to "Portrait of Tracy" played on piano. It highlights for me what a great tune it is, regardless of the technical chops Jaco almost literally invented to play it.
Jaco, true legend and genius.
Everyone in here owes him a dept a gratitude. Even if they can't admit it.

The best ever? I get the debate. All I can say is there never was before or since a player that connected with me on a visceral, emotional level the way he did.
There seems to be a rising wave of Jaco haters that have to respond negatively.
Goes to prove that he DID have a resonating impact!
His legacy still triggers them long after his recorded accomplishments!

I don’t see Jaco hate. I hear people saying that no one can really be called the greatest ever because they all are different. Nearly fifty years after first hearing Jaco, I still study him, but all great art can be studied over and over. I think one of the greatest wastes in life is getting upset because some doesn’t share your tastes or even dislikes them. Be secure in your judgement and move on.
This to me is how genius is defined. When I hear someone who has good or high aptitude called a genius I'm quick to point out geniuses come up with things other people haven't thought of yet.
The greatest at what he was great at, for sure. Just like being a ball player or anything else, though, to really use the term "greatest" you need to specify a position, skill or something else to qualify the statement. Otherwise it has no meaning and really doesn't do him any justice.
