Jaco Tribute Bass Build

The body came in. Here are pics of the neck and body being paired together. The neck pocket is so tight that the neck will not fit. I will let Kevin Kaufman take care of that issue when he does the defret/epoxy job.

i think this is one of the best relic jaco body i have seen done, i think this bass will really be a winner. looking forward to more pics

Thank you for the kind words. My hat's off to Dan Atkinson for making this relic body a possibility. I have so many obligations to get to this week, that I won't be able to start messing with her until Saturday. I just hope it turns out to be a great playing tribute piece to one of the legends of bass.

Yeah, KK's shop is like 20 minutes away from me. After talking to him and visiting Jaco's grave, last month, I was inspired to build this tribute. In fact, if Kevin wasn't doing the neck, I doubt I would've even started such a project.
Kevin informed me that he still has all the original neck molds from Jaco's bass, so making it similar to the original shouldn't be that difficult. He also kept tons of pics and specs sheets on how he did Jaco's setup. I'm not expecting an exact copy of the bass of doom, but I hope he can get close. The neck job isn't cheap, but well worth it, in my opinion.
I plan to get tons of pics of Kevin with my bass, for documentary purposes. He will be back in Florida at month end. I hope to be ready for his services by mid November.
I am not a Jaco fan, nor do I play fretless... however this is a very exciting build. Subscribed. Good luck and have fun with the build.
Thanks for the kind words. I order my electronics and pickups in a week. This weekend, she gets shielded.
This is awesome. I had no idea you could do so much to a normal bass. I'll definitely be doing this stuff to my own basses soon. (assuming, that is, I get the $$)
Well, if you don't want to mess with building it, but want a custom retro bass, I'd check out Dan Atkinson. I got my Jaco body from him.
