Jaco's Jazz Bass

I think all the greats have their "gigging bass" and a collection of whatevers at home.

Well that is the Chris Squire Ric only idea sorted....I don`t think that anyone has only ever played one make of bass.

The bassist for the foo fighters plays mainly fenders,

Nate's main bass is actually a Lakland, and has been for quite some years now. He does have a Fender sig coming out soon though so i expect that'll change.

Brian Marshall of Creed/Alter Bridge seems to only have been using his Sadowsky 5 for the past few years. As well as Frederic Leclerq of Dragonforce has only been playing ESP for a good few years now (as far as i can see) and mostly his signature model at that.

From the Rocco Prestia wiki page:

Prestia's primary instruments are his Fender Precision basses (a purple transparent American Deluxe and a natural ash-bodied short-lived signature model with a reverse split pickup and a 2-band EQ). In recent years he has maintained an association with the Conklin company that provided him a custom built four-string instrument, one of the few in the company's catalog.

Nikki Sixx also had a stint with Spector, both a regular model and a T-Bird Clone.

There are many in this thread where I question the impact of a sponsorship on their "choice".

How about these?

Cliff Williams (AC/DC) and his StingRays

Ian Hill (Judas Priest) has been using Spectors for over 20 years, although he had Fender and Hamers earlier on.

I don't think I've ever seen Gary Gary Beers (INXS) with anything but a Precision. Same Precision dedication with Peter Gifford (Midnight Oil) and Steve Kilbey (the Church) always seemed to be playing with a Fender Coronado bass.

Cliff Williams played a Steinberger for a while. Not sure how long?

Gary Garry played a fretless Steinberger and an Ibanez a lot in the mid '80s.

I always picture Steve Kilbey with a Telecaster bass.

Mike Watt has been fairly consistent over the years.
For most of the 80s, he had the white Tele bass w/ EMGs.
For most of the 90s, it was the blue Thunderbird II.

For the last 12 or so years, he's stuck with EB-0 and EB-3 basses. His main one got ripped off a few years back, and he's since acquired other EB-0s and 3s. Seems to be a good match of materials, mod-ability, and comfortable scale.

That said, he's wielded plenty of other basses at various points here and there (a couple of Precisions, other Gibsons and custom jobs). But for most part, he seems to have stuck with his main basses for years at a time.

BC Rich Warlock and Mockingbird, various Hamers, Spector Euro, Gibson Flying V. He recorded only 2 albums with Tbirds (Too Fast For Love and Motley Crue.) He recorded 2 songs with a Musicman Sterling in '05. Now he records all new music with a 1959 Fender Precision.

Andy Fraser - Gibson EB3

Larry Graham - Moon Jazz Bass - at least that's all I've ever seen him playing

Jean-Jaques Burnell - P-Bass. Ok now he uses a custom made P-Bass copy but that's only because Fender wouldn't give him a signature model that he richly deserved.

Ray Shulman - Fender P
