Jad Freer Sisma Mega Thread.

Listen, you're overthinking this, really. If you read carefully, it's written "Tube preamp based on the iconic B15 sound", so that could mean… anything. Same for class G power section, you can't draw conclusions by analogy with other class-G amps. Don't try to imagine how a preamp based on the B15 + a class G power section sound like, it's lost in advance.

It's a new product, from a relatively new brand. Relax.

All you have is a Youtube demo and our first reviews (from myself and the other early buyers who cared sharing their experience). You really have to learn patience young man, what's the point being aggressive with the most respected member of this community?

Not all of us speak French, Monsoir. ;)

I'm not particularly aggressive, I'm more trying to understand. In my last question I wanted to know what made a B15 preamp special and how a Class G amp was in general compared to other amp technologies.

Having spoken to other amp manufacturers here, I don't think this person is the most respected on the forum, because apart from calculations and theory he didn't particularly enlighten me on what I already knew.

Now having heard a 300W tube compared to a 300W class D with the same bass in the same cabinet, even if there are differences in "colors" and dynamics, etc... I don't see how the 'one could send heavy and the other barely vibrate a can of soda while "1W is 1W and that's all".

Especially since the people who demoed the two amps for me also make amps, know what they're talking about and explained to me that there was a big/huge difference between a Class D and an all-tube amp, even if they are of the same power, compared to the fact that one can move much more air than the other.

Nothing in here that seems to require veiling.

Actually, I think that part is a not-so-thinly veiled shot at "this person" whose identity we can all figure out very easily. When he knows the reaction that will take place from it

What a chicken-**** move.

The rules are the rules, I just wanted to know what was your experience with Class G amp (not sisma) if you have try those yourself ?

And how is a B15 preamp in comparison to other preamp that you have try ? I know nothing about the B15, the only time I heard one was maybe on old record and it sound like something I don't want to have. Kinda floppy and boomy, but this is surely because of how it was setup + the 15" cab and other thing and not just the preamp by itself.
Ampeg has release a preamp with a B15 mode on it and it sound quite dull, big, fat but dull and I don't understand what is good about it when I listen to those demo.

Because the Sisma sound really good on demo in comparison and has lot of dynamic, clarity and other things I don't know how to describe.
There are people who like that B-15 sound and go out of their way to obtain it. Whether it's the real amp or some facsimile of it. Just like the folks who crave and salivate over the other Ampeg sound, the SVT. It's not for everybody but it is for some. It has been for most at one time or another.

They were the only legit bass amps for a long time and are part of our heritage, like it or not, like the sunburst P bass with tort.

There are folks that are more interested in arguing than learning, this is a good example on a gross unwillingness to learn in spite of multiple attempts by multiple members. I’m starting to wonder if there is another agenda or relationship to this new manufacturer that has not been disclosed?

Mr. Field, I'm formally asking not to insinuate any unfair behaviour from Jad Freer. If this forum has some sort of moderation I'd call for it. I'm just logged to provide product support and personal experience.

I agree here, but because the Franz person is egging on the participants here into the behavior going on (yes, including mine).

I hope you support the moderation you are suggesting for the same reasons. He’s doing neither you nor himself any favors.

I did not question you, it was the insinuation by somebody (Franz975) who appears to be commenting on behalf of you and your company and then became disrespectful that I questioned.

As you stated, you are ONLY here to provide Jad Freer product support and personal experience. While I do support the company that I work for, I also participate in the spirit of community by adding (mostly) technical information for the benefit of the entire community. I am not here solely to support the company that I work for.

Speaking for myself, this is what I feel is fair being labeled a commercial user, since most people would consider biased or inappropriate reading my personal opinions regarding other brands. I've been officially endorsing Mesa in Italy for around 12 years, but I don't feel fair to comment on these products because of my TB status, even if some players would be interested in the opinion of someone who gigged (and loved) most of their amp and cabs produced in that period. I'm also an official international Ibanez Artist and I don't feel comfortable posting about instruments too.

Now, I wish that this thread will stay on topic from this moment on.

I have nothing to do with Jad Freer, I am just another customer.

I didn't wanted to be disrespectful to you or any other guys here, I think I have a hard time translating what I want to say from french to english more than anything else because I was more like "okay how does that work, why it sound like that compare to that, why do I feel that because on the paper I am supposed to hear more that or that".
I am more of a curious dude that has tone of question and I am definitely bad at understanding any theoric or mathematic most of the time, even more when it is in another language. I don't have your experience at all, I don't even work in the same area ahah.

I will send you a private message if you are okay about this so, if you want, you can explain to me more about that and I will try to explain better how I feel the thing, etc.... if possible.

Sorry for all that I am dumb sometimes... meh

This topic will definitely stay on what it is supposed to be from this moment.

About the Sisma, I don't know if there is a tone difference if you change the Tube inside of it ?

Can a tube swap make the amp sound "better or worse" ?

Can it change the way it overdrive too ? :/

This just came in Friday. Here’s my first impression after playing a couple of days with it in a home studio: I was only using headphones, a 1x10 cab, and the DI out direct to an audio interface.

Unboxing

Sisma looks sturdy and built to last, beautiful finish, knobs are smooth and accurate. Overall look and feel of a high quality product.
It feels slightly heavier than its size would let you expect, it is for sure very dense, but not much heavier than a normal Class D amp + an external tube preamp. It fits in my gig bag, but I will probably use the nice included bag for safety reasons.

First impression

First test run, this amp seems to check all my boxes. I didn’t think I could find all these (almost opposite) qualities in a single amp:
  • It has a strong tubey character if you want it (the official Youtube video is quite representative), but no « baked in » tone that you can’t get rid off.
  • Neutral sounding when all knobs are at noon (that’s important for me).
  • Very versatile: the combination of tube preamp + Baxandall tone stack + 2 semi parametric mids lets you dial in a large tonal palette.
  • Intuitive - once you get used to each control, they’re all predictable and straightforward.

Attention to details

I seems that Jad Freer Audio have really worked on the small details, in order to remove all the irritating issues you may find on other amps, and provide a pleasant and rewarding user experience in the studio and in live settings.
  • The Deep and LPF switches have a subtle effect, and that’s great. It makes these options usable at any volume (on other amps or preamps, the deep switch is usually super cool at practice level, but excessively pronounced in a live context).
  • The gain control is super progressive. The other tube preamps I have tried go very quickly from clean to distortion. With Sisma you can control very precisely the level of tube coloration.
  • The combination of a Baxandall tonestack and the 2 semi-parametric EQ is very well thought out, which makes it efficient and intuitive.
  • The Master knob is logarithmic, so you can adjust the volume precisely even at very low levels. Many other bass amps I know reach 80% of the power at 10 o’clock (Markbass for example), I hate this because it makes it super hard to adjust the volume at practice levels (plus I don’t like to be taken for a fool).
  • Dead silent: all the outputs are completely free of noise, and you can’t hear the fan at all. Basically the power led is the only way to know that your amp is turned on when you’re not playing. Beware, it’s addictive.
So far, I really love the tone, I can’t wait to play it loud, with various bigger cabs. But after two days in a home studio I already know it’s a keeper.

I think this might be the first customer review available online, so feel free to ask me any question...

Congrats on the new amp and thank you for the review! Anything new you might add from your previous post/review?

Note that there is nothing in the commercial user policy that says you can’t comment favorably about other products, and to do so is not biased or inappropriate. I often recommend other manufacturer’s products when I feel that they are a better fit.

If you are an endorsing artist for Mesa and Ibanez, you might want to add that to your commercial profile too.

nothing to get upset about, the discussion provided valuable technical information to other players (and will continue to do so as members read this thread in the future) while dispelling myths that are factually incorrect (like class G is more efficient than class D).

Perhaps there are serious translation errors that are getting in the way of the communication, I was unaware that English was not your native language. Google translate is far from perfect for sure.

The guy who say about Class D/G efficiency wasn't talking about the "real" efficiency, he explain that in another comment after you explain it to him.
He just say that the class G he has try feel bigger/louder than the Class D he compare it to I think and I use sometime vocabulary that is not the correct word for what I think too :/

That is very possible, I can only comment based on what’s written. This is a challenge of communicating accurately between languages. While I understand Spanish pretty well, this is not true of other languages, especially when technical concepts are being discussed.

This post has been reported, and moderators don't at this point see it as nefarious as the reporters do. Time will tell, but given the foreign language nature of the post, the consensus at this point is to do nothing and hope that cooler heads prevail.
