Jaguar Neck: How Small?

Today's the last day of the MF October sale, so I'm trying to make up my mind if I want to get one of them Jaguars or not.

GC doesn't have any here and I've never played one.

There've been comments here about the neck being small, which after a point is a deal-killer for me. In the pictures, it looks almost like a Geddy Lee.

Compared to an American Standard Jazz, how much smaller -- if any -- is the neck? If you want to do a circumference measurement, that'd be even cooler.

The Jag neck has the same dimensions as the Geddy.

The Geddy neck dimensions in mm's.

Starting at the first fret and going through the 15th. Measurement beyond the 15th is not feasable due to the heel of the neck and curve toward the flat of the heel.

I just got a Sunburst Jaguar from Musicians Friend. Get the deal while you can and don't look back. You have 45 days to return it and get a full refund if the bass is not to your liking. I love mine and I am sure you'll love it too.

I don't know why people keep saying that necks on Jaguar and GL are the same. They are not! (I own both). In fact I got the Jaguar hoping it would have a GL neck (I love the neck on that bass!) but it's not even close.

It might have the same thickness as neck on GL, but the GL neck is shaved, so it's more of a C to V profile. My Jag feels more like a D profile or something like that. It's bigger, it basically feels like the neck on a Japanese vintage reissue jazz basses. It's smaller that the MIA Jazz I used to have but it's definitely not "slim".

And it doesn't have the small frets, they are medium. I like it but I was hoping it would be slimmer ;). And the bass has a neck dive :rollno:

This is the reality. My Jag neck feels a lot more like a typical Jazz neck than a slimmed-down Geddy (I own a CIJ 70s Jazz and a 90's American Standard). And the frets are not mini/vintage. They are medium, kinda wide actually, and medium height. I have a Warmoth custom neck with vintage frets, those things are tiny, like guitar frets. The Jag is defintely not vintage fret wire.

I'm happy to report that I'm not experiencing much neck dive with mine.

OP should have done a little more research. He missed a helluva deal on an awesome bass.

My Jag's neck is smaller than any Jazz bass I've tried and much closer to the Geddy than the standard Jazzes. Fender even calls both "1-Piece Maple, Thin “C” Shape" on their spec sheetes. No other bass has this description. Maybe there is a bit of variance in the builds though that would seem odd for MIJ's.

Well, if you put it this way, yes, it's probably close to GL, but it's not the same and not even close. I know that Fender calls them thin C shape, but they are different. And I don't think that there is variance in the builds.

A lot of people here on TB were saying that Jaguars even have the same pickups as the GL (Fender originals). Again, this is not true. My Jag has different pickups.

And my GL has CTS pots and a Switchcraft jack. My Jag has some generic small pots and a generic jack. Again, I am not trying to say that Jags are bad, but they used to be in the same price range as the Geddy Lee model and the difference in the materials used is overwhelming.

Both also have a 9.5" fretboard radius.

Someone send me your Geddy and I'll compare it to my Jag. It might take months or even years for me to make the comparison. Don't worry, I'll take good care of the GL! :hiding:
