i loved playing JT on my radio show during the mid to late 80's.

gramavision put out some good stuff back then. him and kazumi watanabe (both gramavision and steinberger).

i'd get SCREAMING calls from listeners to stop playing that SH*T@!#@$#$

I am going in the studio this evening with(Im on my way to pick them up at Chicago's Ohara airport) Jamaaladeen,G.Calvin Weston,guitarist Adul Hakeem,Spoken word artist Dred Sista Ren,and myself on fretless Bass.this is for my debut CD.

i was supposed to see him friday night but the show was rained out.

Don it was a blast.we went in to do only one track but came out with two very nice ones,and some duets between me and Jamaaladeen.he told me that he will be calling you soon.me and Calvin grooved like there was no tomorrow.I am more than satisfied with the outcome of the session.sorry guys but you will just have to wait for the release of my CD.but then again I might post some excerpts of it one my site.there is a video interveiw conducted last night by guitarist Zudzai Kazimbira that will be put on my site.

Hey Don I read that artical sunday(Jamal had a copy with him)the instructional project is not a video but a CD with Booklet it is very close to completion it's called the essence of the groove for bass.it's me playing a 5 string fretless with drummer Kirk Marshal.

I caught Jamaaladeen last night at his "DNA Galleria" show at the Tritone in Philly.

Jack Walrath was on trumpet.

Very good show. Nobody plays quite like JT. He
defines "the pocket." His lines are so deep you need radar to find them !

He was playing the dipinto bass thru a kustom with 4x10's.

great tone.

He generally laid out the the initial groove for each piece, the other players coming in as they felt they should.

the drummer was particulary impressive.

This was free jazz at it's best. The group for never haviing played together was in good ensemble form.

Jamaaladeen directed the course of the improvs via changing his ostinato lines and very intelligent use of dynamics.

His solos were soulful and well crafted, anternating between straight pizz funk lines interspersed with some very nice bop style swinging arpeggiated runs.

One memorable solo included some spoken word by jamal, in reference to one patron that talked very loudly thru the solo. After one well vocalized comment the patron stopped talking.

Very impressive gig.
