I didn't see too much Jamerson airtime in that clip, but it was solid gold as far as Martha's air time. What a cutie and what a natural. I'm not sure I've ever seen a clip where she was as comfortable and laid back as in that one.

Nice to catch glimpses of "The Master". Looks like early 70's L.A when James was still near the top of his game. Funny to catch Jamerson out of first position where he rarely strayed. Dennis Coffey and Wah Wah Watson on guitars. Martha still sounded pretty good, but the first tune was Martha trying to impersonate Gladys Knight and NOBODY can out Gladys, Gladys. Marthas voice did begin to deteriorate towards the late 70's when it got weak with way too much vibrato. I do understand she's sounding better these days.

That's great footage of a solid rhythm section.

In addition to Jamerson, Coffey and Watson, I believe that was Joe Sample on piano. There weren't too many shots of him, so I'm not 100% sure, but it looked like him.

I played behind Martha many times as part of a regular 'Motown & 1960's Review'
in the 90's

All the other acts were great people; Drifters, Platters, Brooklyn Bridge, etc. etc.

I was the leader but she would tell to turn down, turn down, until I couldn't hear myself (it wasn't MY playing) her musical director always said the NO bass player after JJ could make her happy - IOW don't take it personally.

Only her & Little Anthony (he never goes without shades - never saw his eyes) had attitudes. I think they got soooo ripped off with little to no royalties that they were bitter.

She was wearin' them moldy wigs way back then? - just sayin'
