James Jamerson/Carol kaye dispute

I think its a good idea to study both Jamerson's and Kaye's work. I don't think anyone would debate that.

No-one is debating that.
To me Jamerson is the best bassist who ever lived.

I am in awe of Carol Kaye's work but it lacks the soul the Jamerson and other favourites of mine have.
However if Kaye's claims are unfounded (and I'm pretty sure they are) then it casts her in a bad light. Some would say that I should separate the bass from the bassist and just concentrate on whats on the CD, but doing that removes all kind of important contextual issues -plus it's kind of dry.

As an (extreme) example take the works of Dancehall star Shabba Ranks. Some of his music is aright really but it's overshadowed by my knowledge that Shabba Ranks advocates the crucifiction of Homosexuals. So I can't and won't listen to it.

Admittedly no-one is accusing Kaye of anything on that scale, but perjury is a serious charge.

This has been done before and never came out well.

The earlier thread was closed for similar reasons. The reason some in this thread were urging to search for the older thread was to not repeat the follies of that past incident.


Even though many of you might not have been here when that last one (and others like it) was active, our achieves here at TB go back far enough to read and research the 'dispute'.

I'm closing this thread for now.
