James Jamerson Greatest Hits

Ive been looking around and i cant seem to find one, nor do i know a lot of tracks he was featured on. So i was wondering if you could put together a greatest hits cd for Mr Jamerson, what would you put on it

Are you interested in the Greatest Hits he played on? If so, buy a Motown Gr. Hits, Compilation, almost everything on it until the early '70s, and some after, will feature him. He also played on a few biggies on other labels.

If you are interested in his best bass performances, there are a ton of great suggestions in this thread:

Otherwise, check out the sticky at the top of this page, and do an advanced search for threads with Jamerson in the title.

You might just be surprised how much of his work you are already familiar with, but be prepared to have your mind blown when you give it a closer listen.

I out together a schedule of my favourite bass songs on my MP3 player for practicing my playing, James features more predominately than most, and a great source is here:

This is a great site run by a friend of the band (never seen them, unfortunately) who is a Jamerson enthusiast and was able to research and answer a couple of queries I had about the man. Recommended.

Put your own cd/MP3 playlist together. Its fascinating listening to the tracks, expecially those where our hero played on more than one version of the same song.

You probably have, but, If I may suggest, you should give Bob Babbit a listen too. Different to James but both can groove in a very special way!
