Standing in the Shadows is great, but the CDs are kind of cheesy. Just last night I was listening to Chuck Rainey play Bernadette. I mean, this is Chuck Rainey, so it should be good. But, it just didn't have the groove, the feel that Jamerson had. I had to turn it off and turn the real thing on.

I put all the original song on 2 cd. SO when I play with the book, I put the real song.

That said, I took a chance & bought Soul Hits Of The '70s Vol. 7. "Scorpio" is on there & to my surprise, it's the full-length version(I think). The tune on this compilation disc clocks in at 4:03(or so); I did a search at www.allmusic.com & read that the original version also ran the same. Awesome!
For those unaware, the tune is instrumental, has a percussion breakdown(which reminds me of The James Gang's "Funk #49")followed by a lonnngggg bass solo by Bob Babbitt...it's the bomb!
...and this was a Pop tune/HIT back in '72!

The thing that still absolutely kills me about music of that era (60's-70's) was how much "music" could be squeezed into so little actual time. The majority of songs were sub-4:00... it's almost like they figured out how to suspend time.
I haven't been able to locate that album in the dungeon (aka my basement) but that song probably is around 4 1/2 minutes, which was looong back then. Like Willie Weeks' solo on the Donny Hathaway Live album it wasn't about pyrotechnics, just some killer down-home Funk grooving. That was easily the longest bass solo in a mainstream song that I'd heard up to that point. Props to Bob Babbitt.
