I always get that confused every time I hear that tune being tossed around

Fretless. It gets pretty low if you listen with decent headphones or speakers. I love the bass playing in that song.

I usually don't see a lot of people talking about Japanese bass players. I think there's a lot of them who are amazing but don't get any attention. Here are some of my favorites.

I always love to watch tmsw's videos. I didn't know about pinkhage but i checked his channel and he's really good, funny too!

Rosana Miho of Lovebites. The band was her brain child and she is the band leader. The whole band soothes the old school metal head itch. Nothing more metal than dresses and high heels.

Miho has a great metal tone but my heart belongs to Haruna the drummer. I just love her style.

It's a couple of days late, but I wanted to rez this thread to acknowledged that on 11/11 Japan has a "Bass Day." Like...a day when they take the time to give bass players an "atta boy."
I don't like a lot of J rock or J pop, but it's pretty easy to hear in these styles how much more respect the Japanese have for the bass, not only regarding it's place in music, but the actual instruments themselves. If you haven't played a Japanese jazz bass, you need to do yourself a favor and try one. I'd take a Japanese jazz over any US made jazz.
Another interesting thing to note from the videos posted in this thread, is the large number of female musicians. I'd say easily half of the bass players shown here are women. Why can't we have that level of representation of women in music with instruments in the West? Why is it mostly female pop singers, and that's about it?
