I usually don't see a lot of people talking about Japanese bass players. I think there's a lot of them who are amazing but don't get any attention. Here are some of my favorites.

Going way way back…the Sadistic Mika Band were a curious mixture of funk, fusion, and power pop in the mid-70’s. Assisted by Roxy Music, they eventually came to perform in the UK; drummer Yukihiro Takahashi would later end up in Yellow Magic Orchestra, Japan’s version of Kraftwerk. Ray Ohara was the bassist….

You might like Junko from Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai. Solid playing with no more flash than necessary.

Their name translates to something like "Heads on Pikes Association" and they make the best videos. One of the striking things about Japanese metal bands is even the ones that are mostly doing it to take the piss are still dead serious about their musicianship.
