Japanese Squier P-Bass? SQ serial number...

I am looking at purchasing a SQ serial number Squier P-bass.

I was hoping some one might have a bass from this serial number batch and maybe be able to help me decide if I should purchase it. I am unable to play the bass as it is in a pawn shop over 700 miles away.

The Bass has the skunk stripe and the truss rod adjustment at the heel. The body looks as if it is a 1 piece slab. They say the neck is straight and the frets are near perfect, which makes me wonder if it might be a hoax as I would expect more wear on a bass this old.

I was researching online to see if there is any better information but I have turned up relatively little.

I own two and had another ...great basses IMO as good as a Fender MIA P bass...yes I have them so I know. What color is is 3TS. It will be sen-ash, light and it is 3 pieces and contour body. I will send you a PM.

It is 3ts, looks like 1 or 2 pieces if I am reading the grain right, I am going to pass on it though as I just bought an ampeg PF half stack and still need to get my MTD recrowned, will happily pass on the eBay link to you, ends in 3 days with 0 bidders and already was relisted once.

Fortunately I work about 45 minutes from the pawn shop, so I was able to pick it up over a long lunch. The shop actually seemed to be pretty busy, but there were no other guitars or basses that really caught my eye. A bidding war would have been bad, I was only about $5 under my max bid as it was.

34" scale indeed. Action is fairly low and the intonation isn't too far out. I'm going to wait on adjusting everything until I restring. The current strings are brand new DAddario rounds which will likely find their way onto my new (to me) Jazz.

I have two of them, the black on black and the 3ts.

Love them, the black on is my main gigging bass. Have had it
for 5 years now. I put a Bill lawrence P46 and use d'Addario Chromes on it, does the job as I like it.

They cost me about half the price of one MIA P bass of the same era.

Little fret wear is a sign of how much the bass has been played - my 76 P has very little fret wear.

Nice! how do you rate the fit and finish quality to a MIA fender P? Me it's equal (SQ) and in some better.
I have a 08 MIA P Bass and the SQ is a tad bit lighter. The only thing the 08' has over the SQ is a polished freatboard (nice) and the graphite rods other than that is even.

I would rate the fit and finish of the SQ Precision just under that of my '96 American Deluxe Jazz. The pick guard has a gap where it meets the neck, but otherwise seems to be assembled well. The hardware is lower quality, and it doesn't have graphite in the neck. I'm happy with it and no longer have PBass GAS.
