Jay Turser 600 A

Hey, I just wanted to share with all of you my bass and see what you thought. Until I found the guitar at my local small guitar shop, I'd never heard of the company. This is a $400 bass ($600 MSRP) that I got for $175. It was originally $225, but he nicked the bass and took a small chunk out of the finish. I don't even think it's noticeable in the picture. Sorry for the picture, by the way. I took it on a 2 Megapixel cell phone camera.


Have you heard of this company? What are your thoughts on them?

Bump. No one knows anything about Jay Turser basses? Even the company in general?

Turser makes some decent instruments, although they are considered budget instruments. of course they are Asian imports. I had a Turser JTB-401 (clone of a 1954 P) and it was a great bass, light and easy to play (although a neck diver in stock setup). I know that bass is a good one - only sold it because I had a duplicate, more valuable bass.

Note: I do NOT look down my nose at budget instruments. I've had a number of them that turned out to be excellent players. I also have heard that their hollowbodies are good instruments.

I'm not sure about the Turser line up and down, but the one I had was a winner.

How does it play?! I'm thinking of getting the same bass except in green.

It plays great. The active pickups are a little weird, but I think my battery's just running low. And in case you're new, it *does* need a 9V battery and it won't make a noise (so I hear) without one. The only problem I found was that my E string buzzes up to the 5th fret. However, to my knowledge, the bass was never set up, and I just recently intonated it.

Using the two pickups and the bass/treble knob (I think that's what it is) you can get a wide range of tones, but I usually get them equally slit with all the adjustments at noon. Any amp with an EQ will allow you to get a pretty good range.


P.S. I wanted it in green, too, but the shop only had red. I got mine for $175, but I've seen it sold between $300 and $600. I don't know that I'd pay $600 for this bass, so try to get a good deal.
