Double Bass Jazz amp

Bob,
Do you suppose that they made that particular speaker for Polytone? I believe that that was the case for the early GK 200MB's. Just a thought.

Ric
The Polytone speakers of that era were made for them by Eminence. These drivers had a light-weight cone, which broke up easily giving some harmonic distortion (and the warm sound!). The speakers also had fairly small magnet assembly. Inexpensive speakers that had a characteristic sound.

The OEM driver for the GK 200MB was made by Pyle. The driver for the current GK MB150 is made by Eminence. I've had a Pyle and an Eminence version in two identical cabinets, and I could not tell any difference between them.

I have a love hate relationship with my Polytone minibrute III. It is so convenient to carry around and sounds good enough that it gets used often even an occasional electric bass gig if I can get away with it. A guitar player friend loves to come to my house to rehearse as he really likes playing his jazz box through it and doesn't have to carry anything.
