Jazz Bass convert

I've always been kinda anti-Fender. Not because I didn't like them, but because they were what everyone played. I have a G&L ASAT semi hollow that I play as a main bass, and I had an Epiphone T-Bird as a backup. I started growing weary of the T-Bird, because of it's "clunkyness," so I sought out a new back-up. I played a MIM Fender Jazz Bass in a store and really liked it a lot, there was a sale happening that day- 10% cash back, so I bought it. Finally, the other night I used the J-bass in practice, a blues metal/stoner rock band. Holy Crap! That bass sang! I smiled and laughed and was just in bass heaven. We play in 2 tunings- standard(Jazz bass) and drop C (ASAT). Two very different sounds. The ASAT has a very clear, defined HI-FI sound. The JB has a growly bark that just kicks a**. Lovin' life right now. Not an ounce of GAS.

I've had a Jazz for 25 years and have yet to find anything that fits me better. I keep trying because I'd love to find something. It's just a great low sound. Plus, the neck works. I've tried others that I thought "fit" me better and in the end, the Jazz outperformed them.

Long story short. Had a Jazz early on. Got a good job, had to work weekends and stopped playing and I sold my bass. Years went by, got back into it "Now I'm going to get serious!" (Wanted something different too) Bought a used Zon sonus, Warwick Thumb nt and eventually got Thumb bo fretted and fretless.( Man, I love the woody look of Thumb basses!) I Found active basses not to my liking. For me they were harsh,clanky,too much finger noise and trebley although I found the Zon less so. I was missing the warm,woody full tone and tried a Fender Precision and ordered a MIA Ash/Maple and loved it! few years later got an Ash and Maple Jazz! The neck feels much better and friendlier to me and I love the simplicity and sound! It was what I had been craving. So much for wanting something "Different" LOL :hyper:

I think my desire to have something different and thinking a beautiful bass would motivate me sort of worked against me. :rolleyes: Having fun now though! :bassist:
