Jazz Bass Decision

Alright. I want a jazz bass. I'm looking at either a Fender Geddy Lee, Fender '75 RI (MIA), or a Lakland DJ. Which would you recommend and why? I'm leaning to the '75. My bass teacher has one and it sounds really sweet. I'm also a fan of the 70s pickup spacing.

I say the 75 Ri.
I did not know that there was a difference in the spacing of the pick ups...I guess you do learn new things every day.

Have a 75 RI and it's the one bass that's sweet without a single mod. Other than the BAII on it.

75 Reissue-why not find a 75?
Lakland-Just one of thousands of clones out there.

because I'd bet anything that the 75 reissue is better made than a genuine 75.

If you are into something really well made I'd go to a custom luthier and have one made rather than an "off the shelf" instrument.

How about a Hwy 1? 70's pickup spacing (i think?) and that sweet nitro finish! I am wanting one so bad right now...honey blonde w tort guard! Same price as geddy, but better color and finish options!

I voted the Läkland, because my JO4 is one fine bass. However, if you prefer the 70's pu spacing, you'll probably be better of with a Läkland Darryl Jones.

+1... DJ4 is a wonderful bass, and the reviews of the new Lakland pickups in that model have been very good.

75 all the way. geddy lee not. that is kid toy with fender logo on it. lakland is not fender. other jazz basses would be great,like alleva copp, but i guess money is an issue there. true, i would go with regular fender jazz (classic '60 mex. or american standard ), but if you're leaning toward '75, let it be...

What about a Fender Marcus Miller jazz? IMO the best jazz bass Fender make after the almighty Victor Bailey model!

I've just bought a Highway 1, very nice, but can someone please explain the "70's pickup spacing". This is new to me.

I'd pick up the Lakland because they seem to have much better QC.

Another Lakland vote here - your teacher will look at his 75 jazz, scratch his head and reach for his amp's volume knob to keep up with you!
